Hello,I just joined this forum. I just picked up a Kohler 4.5CKM21-RV spec 10112A generator cheap. The guy I got it from said he had problems with the three relays in the control box I guess I would call it, the box on the side with the start/stop switch. It had been sitting for a long time in a old motor home so it was covered from the weather. The fuel pump and the starter solenoid are junk but I rigged up a gas tank to gravity feed the carb and used a jumper wire to power the ignition coil and used a screw driver to jump the terminals on the solenoid to turn it over and it started and ran fine.My problem is the control box is taken apart and all the wires are off one of the relays and I have no idea if the other wires are where they should be. I have searched all over the internet looking for a wire diagram for this thing but so far no luck. I found a diagram for a 4.5CM21 but it don't look anything like the one I have, at least it don't show the 3 relays in the control box.

I want to put this generator in our 84 Midas Kingston motor home if I can get it working.I want to get the wiring figured out so I can see if it makes electricity the way it should before I buy a new fuel pump and starter solenoid. I don't want to put money in this thing to find out it has major problems.

I paid $100 for the generator so if it don't make electricity I don't have a bunch of money in it.I am pretty good and fixing stuff and figuring stuff out but there are so many wires on the 3 relays I am totally lost as to what they all do and where the wires go on the relays. Some wires jump from one relay to the next one just to make it more complicatedAlso on the brushes, which one is the + brush and which is the - brush? Looks like someone was messing with the brush holder and I want to be sure they are hooked to the regulator the right way.If anyone has the wiring diagram for this thing showing the control box and could possibly email it to me that would be great, or knows where I can find a diagram. I emailed Kohler about a manual or a diagram today but have not heard back from them yet.Sorry for my long rambling first post.Tom. Re: Need info on a Kohler RV generator,Hi Brad, this manual don't have the same local control as my generator either, they all show a circuit board in the control, this gen don't have a circuit board in the control, it has three relays and a start/stop switch, one fuse and a diode, no circuit board. I am not upset, thanks for all the help, I just can't believe finding a wire diagram with this type of control can be so hard. Also the control is mounted on the opposite side as most of the manuals show. When this generator is in the motor home and you are looking at it through the door the engine is toward the front of the motor home and the generator is in the rear.Tom.

Re: Need info on a Kohler RV generator,I had the cover off the relays and cleaned them with some electrical cleaner and I then tested them.I made some jumper wires and hooked them to a car battery on the two terminals that make them open and close, I then checked the other terminals with a OHM meter to make sure they are doing what they are supost to. One was bad so I am waiting for a new one.As far as I can see the mice didn't do to much damage, but its hard to see everything without taking it all apart.

I blew it out with a air hose the best I could to get the nest out of it. I am waiting for the relay so I can run it to see if it makes electicity, I hope it does without a bunch of work or money put into it. Re: Need info on a Kohler RV generator,I got a new relay and got the wires all figured out in the control box. The gen now runs when the start button is held on but dies as soon as I let the button go. I stuck a volt meter on the black and white output wires and ran it for a few seconds and I got about 76 to 78 volts. From what I have been reading this normally points to a bad regulator? Are there any simple tests with a ohm meter I can do on the regulator to get a idea if its bad or not?

It has B233833 on the regulator.Tom. Re: Need info on a Kohler RV generator,Sounds like the voltage regulator to me. I had the exact same symptoms on my Onan generator and replacing the VR solved the problem. My 7cm21-rv generator had an output voltage that wouldn't rise above about 108 vac and I replaced it with a used regulator and the output climbed to about 119 vac. I think it needs a new VR but I can't justify spending the money on it for the amount of time we use the generator.Definitely let us know what you find the problem to be.Brad.
