Corel License Validation Service V247
If you have installed trial or paid licensed version of Corel software products, you probably may notice a third-party unannounced software application makes its way into your computer too. The program is PSIService.exe by Protexis, which installs a Protexis Licensing service or Protexis Licensing V2 service in Windows operating system.PSIService is part of Protexis copy protection DRM (digital rights management) and license management software, which intends to protect a software or application from piracy and illegal copying. Thus PSI service is normally installed by another program, such as Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2, Corel Paint Shop Pro XI (X1), Corel Paint Shop Pro X, that uses its service to gather licensing information to send home much like spyware, ensure copy protection and authenticate user that uses genuine version of the program. To make matter worse, the ProtexisLicensing service may make PC boots up slower, and when disabled, will cause Corel Paint Shop Pro to stop working, in addition to warn you of running illegal copy of non-genuine software.
Besides, PSIService.exe does not uninstall together with the application that installed it, when the application is uninstalled and removed. In any case, whether you want to get rid of Protexis while keeping the application that dependent on it still working properly and able to run (contrary to popular belief, Protexis Licensing service is not required for program to run), or now need to clean the Protexis PSIService spyware manually due to non-removal by original application that installs it, the procedures to complete uninstall and remove Protexis is easy. In fact, the instructions to uninstall PSIservice is provided on Protexis website. If you are certain that no applications using PSIService are still installed on your system, and this service is still running, you can remove it manually by following these instructions:1. Remove the following registry entry:HKEYLOCALMACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesProtexisLicensing2.
Reboot your computer.3. Delete the following files:%windir%System32PSIService.exe%windir%System32PSIKey.exeOf course, in order to keep applications such as Corel Photo Shop Pro continue running without error, the complete removal instructions cannot be followed. Use the following workaround instead:1. Open Services (services.msc) in Control Panel’s Administrators Tools.2.
Locate ProtexisLicensing or Protexis Licensing service. If you are seeing Protexis Licensing V2 service, use the next guide. Stop the service and then set the Startup Type to Disabled.3. Bowse to%SystemDrive%WindowsSystem32 folder.4. Copy original PSIKey.dll to program folder of application that relies on Protexis, e.g.%SystemDrive%Program FilesCorelCorel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI.5.
Rename PsiClient.dll to PsiClient.bak, or simply delete it.6. Rename PSIKey.dll to PsiClient.dll7. Rename PSIService.exe to PSIService.bak, or simply delete it.If the Protexis DRM softare installed on your system is of version 2, follow these steps instead:1.
Open Services (services.msc) in Control Panel’s Administrators Tools.2. Locate Protexis Licensing V2 service. Stop the service and then set the Startup Type to Disabled.3.
Bowse to%SystemDrive%Program FilesCommon FilesProtexisLicense Service folder.4. Copy original PSIKey2.dll to program folder of application that relies on Protexis, e.g.%SystemDrive%Program FilesCorelCorel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2.5. Rename PsiClient.dll to PsiClient.bak, or simply delete it.6. Rename PSIKey2.dll to PsiClient.dll7. Rename PSIService2.exe to PSIService2.bak, or simply delete it.Now, Protexis Licensing Service is tamed and disabled properly so that PSIService no longer run in background, without affecting functionality of installed application. Protexis Licensing V2 only needs to be running in order to start the Corel product. But once the Corel product is running, you don't Protexis to be running.
Use this batch file (or one like it) to start the service, start your program, and then to end the service after your Corel product is started.example:echo offnet start 'Protexis Licensing V2'Start ' 'c:Program FilesCorelWordPerfect Office X5Programswpwin15'echo To Stop Protexis Licensing V2, make sure your Corel Product is running first, thenpausenet stop 'Protexis Licensing V2'exit. Here's a little VB script that elevates the script to UAC level, runs Corel Photo Paint (64bit) Sleeps the VB Script for 6 second Then kills the Protexis Licensing service.

Hi All,I recently decided to take the plunge and upgrade my Paint Shop Pro v 8 to v X7. 22.2.0.8 2019 ver. 21.1.0.22 and & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX thru PSP2018 owned but not installedurlModerator Posts: 2240 Joined: Tue Nov 30, 2010 12:44 am Location: USA operatingsystem: Windows 10 SystemDrive: C 32bit or 64bit: 64 Bit processor: 8th Gen. Like the others, I do not find that this licensing service creates any issues on my computer and it's an older, less powerful model, and given the thousands of people using X7 without reporting this issue I'm inclined to believe that something else caused your issues, albeit it must have been reasonably concurrent with your installation of X7.

I'd get the free Malwarebytes and run a complete system scan if I were you, because I suspect you have some type of malware present. I also suggest getting Hitman Pro and doing the same thing. Between the two of them you should get a good scan of various malware that may be present. You should be able to reinstall X7 after you have gone through all of the scans and cleaned anything you find, because that program works for everybody else without these issues and you'll find that it's a great improvement in many ways over PSP8.
JMHO.EDIT: And I do not think that you can just disable the licensing process if you want to use PSP X7 because the program will not run without those processes running when PSP is launched. However, you can prevent PSP from checking for updates in Preferences I believe, and even block it from accessing the internet using your firewall's options.
You can also block the Psi service from accessing the internet with your firewall (I just tested that and X7 still works), so it seems that the process just has to run, not necessarily be able toconnect to the internet. You might want to try that, although I can't see PSP being the cause of your issues. And when you uninstalled PSPX7 did you use the uninstall tool provided near the top of this forum? That's the best way to do a clean uninstall. 22.2.0.8 2019 ver. 21.1.0.22 and & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX thru PSP2018 owned but not installedurlModerator Posts: 2240 Joined: Tue Nov 30, 2010 12:44 am Location: USA operatingsystem: Windows 10 SystemDrive: C 32bit or 64bit: 64 Bit processor: 8th Gen. Kathy9 wrote:FWIW when I viewed my Services to verify the display name of Protexis for the OP I noticed and was surprised to see that the service is disabled and X7 runs just fine.Funny. I tried disabling it and then opened X7 and got a window saying that there my PSP was corrupted and to do a fresh install of the program.
So I closed that window and re-enabled the service and then X7 ran just fine. But I was able to confirm that I could block the Psi service from accessing the internet with my firewall and the program still ran fine. But as the service doesn't seem to consume any resources to speak of I don't mind having it running, although I left it blocked with my firewall because I figure the fewer things trying to access the internet the better off I am, at least in terms of resources or slowdowns in operations. Maybe it's a system specific issue??I usually block all programs that don't have a real need to do so from accessing the internet for that reason, and if I want to check for updates I can do that myself rather than getting prompts about available updates popping up all the time so I turn that off in programs also when I can find it. JoeB wrote:And when you uninstalled PSPX7 did you use the uninstall tool provided near the top of this forum? That's the best way to do a clean uninstall. No, I didn't, thanks for the suggestion.I have run it this morning and it cleaned off another 5 files. So far this morning, I have not seen the activity that I mentioned in my original post.
If this remains the same all day it appears that something was amiss with the installation somewhere.FYI;I have been using PSP since the beginning when Jasc Software designed and sold it and Video Studio since Ulead owned it. I don't give up easily but have on occasion had problems like this one.As mentioned by JoeB, these problems can be system specific or caused by driver clashes etc.I run a full Malwarebytes scan and image backup every weekend. After this, I shall have another attempt at installing PSP x7, making a restore point immediately before.I shall post back here after the re-install.
